(See  ‘Project eARTh at home’ for distanced projects, and all the projects that were done in lockdown. )

Ceramic Planters and more!

Participants worked with ceramicist  Sue Blatherwick to make planters. In the final week, everyone filled them with compost and succulents to take home, to mark the end of our final project until more finds are secured.

Route 61

Route 61 – poetry inspired by the bus route from Buxton to Glossop: Both groups worked with poet Genevieve carver on a creative writing project inspired by the 61 bus route to create a book which is a journey over hill and dale, through history, memory, landscape and laughter.

Papier Mache Animals 2024

Buxton Project eARTh have just started making papier mache animals with artist Patty Callaghan.
We started by learning the easy way to tear newspaper into straight strips – tearing downwards from the slightly jagged edge of the newspaper pages, rather than the straight edges – who knew? (Not me…every day is a school day, as they say) .
It looks like we will have a lion, a hamster, a guinea pig, a fox, and several dogs and cats by the end of the project. A fun and relaxing afternoon.

Beautiful zines!

Buxton Project eARTh enjoyed a short two week project with artists Mandy and Charlie Collins from Milestone Studios– printing in week one; and using the prints and other collage material in week two to create some zines – with wonderful results.

Cranky!

Buxton Project eARTh have been busy with creating their ‘Cranky’ with artist Lois Blackburn – two long scrolls of High Peak landscapes with hills, birds, bats, animals, buildings , paths, roads, rivers .. even the Pavilion Gardens Park Run feature in the artwork which will be on display at The Green Man Gallery in Buxton from the end of November – you ‘crank’ the handles to move the scroll across an open screen.

Silk Paintings

In June we held a Celebratory Event for all the amazing silk painting that both New Mill and Buxton Project eARTh participants had created with artist Creative Ecologist.

The group made 2 large banner/ flags for Poole’s Cavern & Country Park; a banner, bunting and lanterns for Buxton Festival Fringe; two flags / banners for Buxton Pride‘s July Picnic; a large ‘map’ banner and a wildlife wall hanging for Rock Mill Centre in New Mills, 8 flags for One World Festival New Mills and a banner for High peak Community Arts. Representatives from the organisations attended and were all delighted with their gifted artwork.
Thanks to Arts Council England The National Lottery Community Fund and the Foyle Foundation.

Project eARTh’s silk painted flags were looking glorious at One World Festival New Mills!

And here are project eARTh’s silk painted banners in situ at Poole’s Cavern and Country Park. Time for a picnic? You could also see project eARTh’s wooden sculptures ‘Grinlow’s Legacy’ whilst there, made about 8 years ago!

Mosaics

On Monday in Buxton Project eARTh, participants started to stick their mosaics pieces to the cement board being used for the final artwork. Artist MakeMosaic by Tracey Cartledge showed each person how to apply the adhesive to the cement board, and then add their fruit and vegetables! So far we have an aubergine, courgette, parsnips, carrots, a cauliflower and some strawberries on the boards! Next week to add flowers, more strawberries, apples, and pears !
The group are making two mosaics for Townend Community Garden in Chapel – en – le Frith.
As only a few people at a time can work on this part of the process, other participants worked on their mosaic pieces to take home, and on creating some fruit, flower and vegetable collages.

NEW MILLS POSTER:

Silk Painting

The group have just finished a lovely project with artist Sara Blackburn – creating beautiful silk painted banners and flags for The Buxton Festival Fringe, the Buxton Pride Picnic and Poole’s Cavern.

We will unveil these (along with banners made by the New Mills group) on June 8th – so look out for them this Summer!
