New projects that started in September 2011

The New Mills group is in the midst of their poster making project with artist Kate Sheward on the five ways to well being - connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give - experimenting with many visual arts media whilst exploring the themes....the project continues till January 2012, and we'll launch our posters in March 2012

The Buxton group is working with artist Caroline Chouler -Tissier and Leander Architectural to create sculptured aluminium and steel seating for outside the shops in Fairfield and an archway for the Granby Road Park in Fairfield. We'll be busy on this till the end of April 2012, with a summer unveiling. Get in touch if you want to know more....

Project eARTh

People in the High Peak experiencing mental distress are benefiting from a lottery grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities Fund. The successful bid is a result of a strong partnership between High Peak Community Arts and the local mental health teams.

Project eARTh is an exciting new environmental arts and health project.

The grant is funding weekly creative arts projects. In these workshops, participants can meet people, learn new skills, have fun, build confidence, and contribute towards their built and natural environments with works of art. There is no need for any previous arts experience, and we want to encourage people who don’t think of themselves as ‘arty’. Groups meet at New Mills Youth Club on Thursdays from 10.30am – 1pm, and at St.Nicholas’ Hall, Fairfield on Mondays from 12.30pm – 3pm. The project is free of charge.

How to join in

Participants can be referred through their GP, Mental Health Team, other statutory or voluntary agencies or simply refer themselves. You can download a self-referral form here, complete and post to the FREEPOST address on the form.

There are also opportunities for volunteers, participants’ families, neighbours and friends and other community members to get involved. If you are interested, please call Alison at High Peak Community Arts on 01663 744516, Sarah at the High Peak Community Mental Health Team on 01298 22321, or Paula /Roland at Glossop Mental Health Project on 01629 532686

Art work to enjoy
We have made an oak bench and living willow arbour  in the new wildlife garden at Granby Road Park, Fairfield, for all to use. A second bench is in the Glossop Mental Health Project Garden for their members and their neighbours’ use.
