POSITIVE IMAGES – AN EXHIBITION OF ART WORK ON COASTERS
In early June you will be able to see brightly coloured coasters in cafes, pubs, and community venues across the High Peak.
Over 60 venues have gladly agreed to use some of the 3,000 circular cardboard coasters, which were designed by disabled members of High Peak Community Arts. Over the winter, two community artists worked with seventeen disabled people, carers, a support worker from Leonard Cheshire, and a volunteer, in a twelve week project involving mono printing, painting, drawing, felt making, and silk painting. The group then chose their favourite designs, to create twelve different mats, with designs on both sides. Now summer is on the way, and the coasters are ready to be enjoyed, as people sip a cool drink, a cappuccino, or a cup of tea.
There will be exhibitions of art work from the project at Bradbury House in Glossop from June 2nd – 23rd, and New Mills Library from June 24th – July 7th.
Please give us some feedback on the coasters ! We’d love to hears what you think of them. Contact Alison , by email at alison@highpeakarts.org or by phone 01663 744516.
Tales in a Tent
High Peak Community Arts has been busy for the past couple of months preparing for the Derbyshire Literature Festival. We have been making a 16 foot Yurt to house our Tales in a Tent Tour. Working alongside Woodcraft Artist Alistair Hayhurst, and together with people from Bamford, we have been stripping willow, bending wood and generally learning the art of Yurt making. Now it is completed and we are ready to go on the road!
