What a great evening! Thank you to so many of you for coming along and supporting our work. We hope you enjoyed the poetry, singing, displays, drinks, nibbles and the raffle! Thank you also for those who became ‘Friends of High Peak Community Arts’ on the night. You can still do so by using the blue donate button just at the side of this page! We appreciate the support of our community to continue our valuable work.
A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY!
DON’T MISS….
Wednesday 13th September 2017, 7 – 9pm, New Mills Town Hall.
Come and be inspired by the work of High Peak Community Arts and celebrate the launch of the new ‘Friends of High Peak Community Arts’ scheme. Hear more about our Friends scheme (with membership starting from just £2 per month), see our participants’ work, listen to music, drink wine, eat cheese, win some fantastic artwork in our raffle, and be captivated by the poetry of our special guest, the renowned Derbyshire poet (and ex-Derbyshire Poet Laureate) Helen Mort.
Described by Carol Ann Duffy as “among the brightest stars in the sparkling constellation of young British poets”, we are delighted to announce that Helen Mort is now one of High Peak Community Arts’ Ambassadors. Helen will be reading extracts from her writing during the evening.
“As a Derbyshire writer inspired by the county’s varied landscape and rich heritage, I admire and value the work charities like High Peak Arts do to make people aware of how art and place intersect and to support local artists. The High Peak is a rare, unique part of the world and it will always be at the heart of my poetry. We need to celebrate Derbyshire’s artistic life however we can.” (Helen Mort)
The evening will also involve a silent auction of captivating work by a range of talented High Peak artists.
Do hope you can join us for what will be a very special evening.
This event is FREE and is being presented as part of the New Mills Festival 2017.
For more details, please contact Caroline at caroline@highpeakarts.org or on 01663 74516.
Do hope to see you there!
Take a woodland, 12 animations, 6 songs, 3 dramas and 1 magical market place and step into another world…
Tall Tales have hosted their Forest of Enchantment, where the normal rules don’t apply and the audience met the inhabitants finding shelter, trust and magic. Enchanted Gathering was our 4th annual youth performing arts show from the Tall Tales project.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of funders, Arts Council England, Tesco Bags of Helps, local Derbyshire County Councillors and the Music Education Hub.
We have been working with young people on Gamesley and Fairfield for the past 2 months, using stories and ideas from the Young Writers’ Camp. The groups have been learning instruments, jamming and singing together, and in August they joined forces for the 6 day summer school – finishing with our World Premiere public performance of Enchanted Gathering on 16th August at Longdendale Environmental Centre, Tintwistle.
Location: Longdendale Environmental Centre, United Utilities Bottoms Office, Woodhead Road, Tintwistle, SK13 1HS
Thank you for attending this event, to watch the short animated music video created by Project eARTh participants, with musician Aidan Jolly. This was a free event with refreshments.

Tall Tales starts again with 8 music sessions from this Monday 15th May (Fairfield) and Thursday 18th July (Gamesley) through to 17th / 20th July (with 2 weeks off at half term).
Come down to learn some instrumental or vocal skills, write some music, use some music tech – have fun, make friends and all the rest!
All welcome to the Celebration and Unveiling of Project eARTh’s ‘Hidden Worlds’ – a silk painting and tie dye project to create a wall hanging for the URC church in Buxton.
Participants worked with artist Lesley Ann Withers to produce this artwork, based on the idea of looking through a microscope at organic forms.
Join us to see the wall hangings, and photos from the project.
Tea, coffee and cake. FREE event.

The main camp was for age 8+ and happened over four days in the Easter Holidays.
18th – 21st April – at Longdendale Environmental Centre in Tintwistle.
Each day had a different theme, with a music & sound day, and trips out into the surroundings at Longdendale and Crowden to collect inspiration and set off your imagination.
Day 1 – The Ideas Day. Put together a quick group story, learn the key points of story structure and then work on your own on in small groups to write your own. In the afternoon, explore the woods around Longdendale Environmental Centre and collect sounds for Day 2.
Day 2 – The Music / Sound Day. Use yesterday’s sounds to create sonic landscapes for the location, or for your stories; or carry on writing inspired by the sound activities. Bring an instrument if you want.
Day 3 – Habitats Day. Find out more about Longdendale and Crowden from the Peak Park Rangers and develop your story’s characters. Decide what needs to go into the final Collection.
Day 4 – Completion Day. Make your finishing touches and record final versions in writing, audio recording or film. The results of the week will make up the Young Writers’ Camp Collection 2017, which anyone is free to use, develop and bring to life in projects in the future.
Click here to look at the Collection created in the Young Writers’ Camp 2016: Mind Your Head.
The main camp is for young people age 8+ (see below), but for young people age 13+ we had a special introductory masterclass with the award-winning theatre company 20 Stories High.
In the afternoon masterclass the award-winning, contemporary theatre company from Liverpool, came to Hadfield to show how to transform your thoughts and ideas into writing that’s “gritty, jumping, melodic, mashed-up, messed-up, booming, funny and heart-felt…”
Join us to celebrate and unveil Project eARTh’s ‘Orchard Textiles’. Participants worked with artist Amanda Whewell to learn about pattern design and then inspired by New Mills Community Orchard, create beautiful textile panels with hand printing, appliqué and embroidery. These have been stitched together to produce lovely curtains for High Lee Hall .
You will also be able to see participants’ sketch books fro the prject, and a photo display of the work in progress.
